Project

King cobras (Ophiophagus hannah) are a large but elusive snake species endemic to Asia. They are also the only snake species building and guarding nests for their eggs. Recent studies have shed light on their nest ecology, but much still remains unknown. In this project, a set of camera trap pictures of four female king cobras and their nests will be analysed to gain insights into nest guarding behaviour and to establish the first ethogram for it . This project will be an important contribution to understanding an important reproductive behaviour of a secretive species.
